Jacob Furey, MD
Dr. Furey is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon who specializes in hip and knee replacements and reconstructive surgery. He operates at Mid Coast Hospital and sees patients at the Mid Coast Medical Group Orthopedic office in Brunswick.
A Portland native, Dr. Furey was valedictorian of his Portland High School class and attended Princeton University, where he majored in History and graduated magna cum laude with the History Department’s highest award for his senior thesis. He earned his medical degree from the Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston with honors and went on to complete his orthopedic internship and residency training at UMass Medical Center. He was chosen by members of the program and staff to receive the department’s top resident award. He then completed an additional year of subspecialty fellowship training in complex hip and knee reconstructive surgery at Newton-Wellesley Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital under the guidance of renowned joint surgeons Dr. William Healy and Dr. Hany Bedair.
Dr. Furey’s expertise includes operative and non-operative treatments for hip and knee arthritis including joint injections, partial joint replacements, total joint replacements, and revisions of painful or problematic joint replacements. Dr. Furey is also skilled in the treatment of other musculoskeletal ailments, including fractures. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS) and the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS).
In his spare time, Dr. Furey enjoys running, hiking, skiing, traveling, and spending time with his wife and two young children. He and his family live in Falmouth.
